Daphnia

The CGB is a principal participant in an international Daphnia Genomics Consortium. A look at the Consortium's web site will illustrate the range of ecological and evolutionary problems that can be addressed using this ubiquitous, aquatic arthropod.

We are intigued by the potential of Daphnia for developmental genetics.  Daphnia can be maintained asexually as clonal populations with sex induced at the experimentalist's will.

As a first step in the genetic analysis Wataru Yamamoto, Nancy Thompson, and John Colbourne are working at Daphnia transformation with the eventual goal of introducing marked transposons as a tool for genetic analysis.
