Overview

Our lab studies how the hormone ecdysone controls gene expression during Drosophila metamorphosis.  Because much of our work involves cultured cells, we have also devoted considerable effort to devising methods for working with Drosophila cell lines.

The Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics  is a separate campus research center; though directed by Peter Cherbas, it has joint projects with faculty throughout the campus.  Much of the work of the Cherbas lab is made possible by existence of the CGB and is closely integrated with other CGB projects.

One large CGB project is the Drosophila Genomics Resource Center -- an NCRR-sponsored organization that provides genomics research materials to the Drosophila community at large.  As will be evident on these pages, our work is closely intertwined with that of the DGRC.
