Cherbas P, Foster PL, Kaufman T

Bio L585 is one element of the MBG "Core Curriculum" for first year graduate students. Other students can be admitted, but only by permission of the instructors.

My portion of the course occupies the final few weeks. During 2006 that corresponds to the period starting Wed., Nov 1.

Here is a description of my part.

Introduction to Genomics and Bioinformatics

10:45A-12:00P, MWF, JH 248.

This section meets only: Nov. 1 – Dec. 8.

Prerequisites: Open to first year biology graduate students and to other students only by permission of the instructor.

This intensive 5 week, 1.5 credit hour course is part the "core" curriculum for first year graduate students in molecular biology and genetics. It’s goal is to provide biologists with an introduction to databases and the computational analysis of sequence data and to the use (and accomplishments) of high-throughput methods in genomics and proteomics. Along the way, it provides some basic training in the use of the most popular tools for searching biological databases, aligning sequences, and estimating phylogenetic relationships.
